A question regarding Tarot cards…?
i am a beginner in Tarot cards. I have questions concerning its interpretations, shuffling and spreading (dealing the cards to pick out). First how do i interpret the cards without always looking inside the booklet for its meaning. When i look at a card and concentrate I get a meaning that is in contrast to the booklets meaning. In terms of shuffling the deck i have is called the Enchanted Tarot created by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber. The cards are big and when i shuffle them cards will fall out. So how do I shuffle the pack without that happening. Lastly when it comes to spreading out the cards like a fan to pick out…when i do that it turns out to be bulky and it doesnt spread out well like regular playing cards. So how do i get it to spread nice and smoothly?
If there is anyone who can help me on these things it would be greatly appreciated!

Essentially, the cards themselves should be able to give you an interpretation. Yes, sometimes the impressions you get from the cards are a bit different then what the book says, but your impressions are primary over the book, learn to trust yourself. Look at each detail from the facial expression on the character in the card to what jewelry is worn to what direction the water is swirling etc and these things should tell you a story.
One way to study the cards is to journal about them. First, determine what does each suit mean in general? What does each number or court station mean in general? Go card by card (usually in order) and journal about your impressions. This could take some time, maybe months. Examine the picture. What archtypical images are on the card and what do they say to you? Read the description in the booklet or in any tarot guide and try to figure out WHY that image might have the meaning described, then you won’t need to memorize because it will be there as a logical tie to the cards depiction. No matter what, though, go with your own impressions.
Yes, tarot cards can be hard to shuffle. One way to shuffle cards that are too large or small to “riffle” is to use the gypsy shuffle… put the deck on a flat surface and spread them all out with a sweep of your hand. Mix them all around with both hands like you are playing with mud, then gather them back up. This will result in some cards coming up “reversed.” You can choose to read these cards with their reversed meanings, but some tarot readers feel this is unecessary and will simply turn these cards right-side-up in readings if drawn up-side-down. Decide how you’ll handle that before you read.
Most standard-sized tarot decks can be riffled though… it just takes some practice with them since they are slightly larger then playing cards. Keep trying and eventually you’ll get better at it.
Usually, I don’t “fan” the cards and pick randomly… I’ll shuffle them good and thoroughly, cut them, and then draw from the top all in a row. If you don’t like to do this, then you can try cutting the deck anew and drawing the top card each time you need a new card instead of fanning them out to select one.
